Backup Exec Database Missing

Symptoms:

On a fresh install of Backup Exec 10d, the Backup Exec Device and Media service fails to start with the message "Database specified does not exist."

Cause:

The database was not created during the installation. The database files are:

C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Data\BEDB_dat.mdf
C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Data\BEDB_log.ldf
The backup database was also missing:
C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Data\BEDB.bak

C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Data\BEDB_dat.bak

Resolution:
Edit section

  1. Copy the backup database files from another server that has the same version of Backup Exec
  2. Go to C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT
  3. Run BEUTILITY.EXE
  4. Expand Known Media Servers, right-click All Media Servers, select New Media Server, enter the name of the media server, and click OK
  5. In the right pane, select the Backup Exec media server, and then click Recover Database from the Database Tasks options in the left pane
  6. In the right pane, select the Backup Exec media server, and then click Recover Database from the Database Tasks options in the left pane
