Symptoms:
On a fresh install of Backup Exec 10d, the Backup Exec Device and Media service fails to start with the message "Database specified does not exist."
Cause:
The database was not created during the installation. The database files are:
C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Data\BEDB_dat.mdfThe backup database was also missing:
C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Data\BEDB_log.ldf
C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Data\BEDB.bak
C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\Data\BEDB_dat.bak
Resolution:
- Copy the backup database files from another server that has the same version of Backup Exec
- Go to C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT
- Run BEUTILITY.EXE
- Expand Known Media Servers, right-click All Media Servers, select New Media Server, enter the name of the media server, and click OK
- In the right pane, select the Backup Exec media server, and then click Recover Database from the Database Tasks options in the left pane
- In the right pane, select the Backup Exec media server, and then click Recover Database from the Database Tasks options in the left pane
