SBS asks you to install DHCP as part of the setup. You might not to - maybe you weren't ready to remove DHCP from an existing server or network device. When you finally do want to install DHCP on SBS, follow these steps:
- Take note of the existing DHCP configuration:
- IP address scope
- Reservations
- Exclusions
- Default router (gateway)
- DNS servers
- WINS servers (if required)
- Disable DHCP on the existing server or network device
- Install DHCP on SBS by going to Add/Remove programs and then Windows Components (click on Network and then Details)
- In the DHCP manager (found in Administrative Tools) create a new scope:
- Name: SBS
- Description: Local SBS network
- Enter the starting and ending IP addresses for the scope
- Enter any exclusions
- On the "Configure DHCP Options" page, choose "No, I will configure these options later" - you will let the SBS wizards do the configuration
- Right click on the scope and choose "Activate"
- Run the "Connect to the Internet" wizard from the Server Management console to complete the configuration of SBS
